Radical Reconstruction Retreat

Rest, Restore, and Reconstruct through Loss

November 15th to 17th, 2024
Atlanta Based

We sat with the collective loss and pain post-election and realized we need community right here at HOME.

Our Radical Reconstruction Retreat is a
3-day drop-in sanctuary intended for you to gather with others, to be held with your grief, and to participate in restorative practices that support you in rest and meaningful reconstruction through loss.

You have to feel your grief in order to reconstruct your life through loss.

Our social culture has not created space for us to acknowledge and process our loss experiences. Mainstream social culture lacks safe spaces to hold our loss experiences with us.

Typically, when it comes to loss, only death experiences are acknowledged. And they are acknowledged at varying levels of empathetic responses. If you are reading this, I can imagine that you have felt alone, stifled, lost, numb, confused, frustrated, sad, angry, and/or empty at any given point through your loss experience.

You are not alone.

Grief is a natural and emotional response to any loss. Your grief is asking to be felt, held, understood, and validated. Oftentimes, we do not have the proper space to do this, or we are too afraid of the emotional pain of feeling it. Join us to rest, restore, and reconstruct.

WHY THE 3Rs?

Rest

During periods of rest, our nervous system can recalibrate, helping to alleviate the physical and emotional strain that grief often brings. Rest also creates a quiet space for introspection, allowing individuals to process their loss and gradually rebuild their sense of self. By prioritizing rest, we honor the need for self-compassion and pave the way for genuine recovery and growth after loss.

Restore

Restoration helps individuals rebuild their mental, emotional, and spiritual foundations after experiencing profound change. By engaging in restorative practices, such as mindfulness, creative expression, and somatic activities, individuals can reconnect with their inner strength and find new ways to honor their loss. Through restoration, we can transform grief into a source of healing and growth.

Reconstruct

Meaning reconstruction is a powerful process that supports individuals in making sense of their loss experiences amidst their pain. By reinterpreting the significance of their loss, individuals can create new narratives that honor their loved ones and integrate the loss into their ongoing life story. This process allows for a deeper understanding of the impact of grief, empowering individuals to transform their pain into a source of strength and resilience.

Meaning reconstruction transforms grief into a pathway for growth, enabling individuals to move forward with a renewed sense of purpose and connection.

“I experienced the physical loss of my father in 2020. I had no tools, grief therapist, or community to support me through feeling and reframing it. I passively lived through loss, experiencing functional and dysfunctional grief on a daily basis. I ignored it. I thought the normal thing to do was continue working, creating and reaching goals, taking care of my family, and pretending to be okay.

I was not okay. And I did not take action until depression led me to passive suicidal thoughts. It felt easier to be “beamed up” by Scottie than to go for a walk to release endorphins. I was in the pit of my grief and unable to manage the life that loss dealt me… the life I created through dysfunctional societal expectations.

Since the physical death of my father, I have also experienced several non-death losses, too. The COVID-19 pandemic brought social losses into my life that have paved the way for technological advances. I’ve lost a few significant friendships through my grief journey. I lost parenthood in September of 2023, when I legally gave custody of my brother to his mother. I also legally lost my marriage in July 2024 after almost a year of separation. My experience of non-death loss confirmed that the pain and reconstruction processes are no different than the processes within a death experience.

Grief occurs within non-death loss experiences, too.

Through my own loss and reconstruction journey, I acquired holistic tools and resources that I continue to use for myself, and now with clients, and communities. GriefSPACE was birthed.”
